- July 5
- Riverside Arts Market, 715 Riverside Ave Jacksonville, FL 32204
St. Johns Riverkeeper and the Riverside Arts Market are partnering to host “River Ruckus”, to raise a ruckus for the river. River Ruckus is a family festival that shows Jacksonville our River is more than a scenic view. It is a recreational asset to this city that should be respected, protected, and enjoyed. The day’s events include a flotilla, celebrity jump, fishing clinic, SUPboard lessons, kids crafts, boat trips, live music, SweetWater Brewing Co. craft beer, plus all the great art, crafts, and produce that the Riverside Arts Market offers each Saturday under the Fuller Warren bridge.
River Ruckus agenda: RAM will operate for extended hours, from 10am-9pm.
First Coast Outfitters Flotilla: Flotilla patrons will meet at the St. Johns River marina to board their watercrafts and enter the St. Johns River for an 11:00am departure. Located directly next to River City Brewing, this entrance allows for a round-trip floating journey to River Ruckus! Bring your kayak, SUP board, or other floating watercraft! As long as you can row it across the river, we want you out with bells and whistles! Rent a kayak through http://www.firstcoastoutfitters.com or by calling 595-5976. Prizes awarded for best decorated vessel!
All Wet Sports Standup Paddleboard lessons: Come and get your feet wet on the water, and try the fastest growing water sport in the country. SUPboarding allows for an entirely different water experience. Balance and upper body strength allow for fast speed, while retaining the freedom to enjoy the view from a new perspective. Lessons and rentals from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.
Hook the Future Family Fishing Clinic: Come learn how to get started in a sport that will last a lifetime. Captain Don Dingman will walk families through the simplicity of fishing for first-timers and beginning fisherman, for all ages. This experience is well worth the time spent to learn. Clinic on the Hilltop Stage from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
Celebrity Jump in the St. Johns River: Come watch area celebrities jump in the St. Johns River as we highlight the river for recreation, and the need to keep it clean for healthier, safer communities. At 12:00, celebrities will be poised on a pontoon boat jumping platform ready to take a plunge in the river. MC Kerry “the Spektator” Speckman will announce each jumper, and why they care about our river. Hosted by JumpingFish!
SweetWater Brewing Company cold craft beer: Starting over 10 years ago, SweetWater Brewing Company began the “Save the Hooch” campaign, recognizing that clean water makes good beer. The brewery gets the water for its award-winning microbrews from the Chattahoochee River outside of Atlanta. This year, St. Johns Riverkeeper is teaming up with SweetWater for a local “Save Our Water” campaign. Purchase paper fish in $1 or $5 increments all day and help us cover the RAM stage with fish. Our goal from the 4th of July to Labor Day is $10,000!
• Free Boat Tours on the St. Johns River with Freedom Boat Club Jacksonville & St. Augustine, leaving every 20 minutes from the RAM dock.
• Live music goes all day long, with Al Poindexter and the River Rise, Canary in a Coalmine, This Frontier Needs Heroes, The Little Books, rickoLus, and Four Families
• Kid’s Craft Station includes “make-your-own” fishing lures with the St. Johns Riverkeeper Education Director, Jennie Busey.
Sponsors include JaxMetro Credit Union, SweetWater Brewing Company, Riverside Avondale Preservation, All Wet Sports, First Coast Outfitters, JumpingFish, Hook the Future and Freedom Boat Club.
