As an organization, our mission is to defend the St. Johns River and advocate for its protection. We accomplish this through a variety of advocacy, education and outreach programs – executed with both staff and volunteer support. Another important aspect of our work is introducing people to the unique and special places along the St. Johns, creating an affinity and urgency to protect it among local citizens in our watershed.
Our Outreach and Engagement Specialist will be responsible for organizing and managing outreach events, programs and campaigns to raise awareness about issues affecting the river’s health, provide experiences that connect people to the St. Johns, develop partnerships and foster relationships with diverse communities, and empower and activate citizens and volunteers throughout the St. Johns River watershed in support of the organization’s advocacy priorities.
The Advocacy Specialist will monitor the health of the St. Johns, evaluate and prioritize issues and emerging threats, advocate for actions to improve and protect the river’s health and expand relationships with watershed stakeholders. They will also work on advocacy strategies to address loss of fish and wildlife habitat, nitrogen/phosphorus pollution, harmful algae blooms (HABs), climate change and other emerging issues.
