Wednesday, August 2 | 6 p.m. | Azalea City Brewing

It is critical that we all do our part now to tackle climate change, rising waters and saltwater intrusion to protect our waterways and the future of Northeast Florida. Join us in Downtown Palatka for our first Brewing Up Solutions Putnam event in our River Rising series.

Our advocacy team will be on Day 2 of our August 2023 SAVe the River Grasses Expedition and will join experts Casey Fitzgerald and Dr. Robert Virnstein to explore the importance of the St. Johns River’s submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV), the current state of SAV and what we can do to SAVe our river’s grasses.

This is part of our 2023 series of brewery conversations exploring solutions to climate change, sea level rise, and the pollution problems threatening the health of our river and our communities. Brought to you by St. Johns Riverkeeper’s Water Policy Group.

RSVP and let us know you’re coming.

Dr. Bob VirnsteinDr. Robert Virnstein

Dr. Robert Virnstein is a seagrass expert who also retired from the SJRWMD and is currently advising the St. Johns Riverkeeper SAV Team as well as numerous projects to protect seagrass in the Indian River Lagoon and eelgrass in the St. Johns River.

River Rising: Why it Matters

Rising sea levels are making storm surge events worse, causing more septic tanks to fail, undermining infrastructure, pushing saltwater further upstream, and threatening the health of our river and our communities.

Now is the time to ensure that the St. Johns River is resilient and healthy enough to withstand more frequent shocks to its system and for all of us to address the underlying causes of climate change.
