Florida TaxWatch Advises Restoration is in Florida Taxpayers’ Best Interest

A new economic briefing released February 15 by Florida TaxWatch “supports the breaching of the Kirkpatrick Dam and the partial restoration of the natural flow of the Ocklawaha River” and “recommends the legislature appropriate funding to bring about this partial restoration.” According to the report, A River (No Longer) Runs Through It: Ocklawaha River Restoration, “To do otherwise would be a dam shame.”

Florida TaxWatch “is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit taxpayer research institute” that has been working for forty years “to improve the productivity and accountability of Florida government.”

The government watchdog group issued the briefing “to assess the options and provide policymakers with information they will need to make an informed decision regarding the future of the Ocklawaha River.”

The science, public opinion, and economics all clearly support finally breaching the Rodman/Kirkpatrick Dam. Contact Governor DeSantis and your state legislators and ask them to free the Ocklawaha. Restoration can’t wait.
